My dad is a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS). He recently used a scanner that has just been introduced to America from Europe. He performed a survey in
Riverside, CA at the Tyler Mall Galleria. The link is below. Scroll through the projects list until you see MND_10_5_11_Allen_Inst.

This is incredible! Maybe we could get your dad into class sometime?
ReplyDeletePS, how do we use this to render real world envirionments in a FPS game editor?
ReplyDeleteI am not exactly sure what the process would be, but I do know it would allow game designers to use many points from real world environments to create layouts for games. They would have to somehow integrate the softwares, but generally it would allow games to have 100%(or really close to 100%)real world layouts of environments. For example, they could scan parts of cities (such as Los Angeles) and then create a model based off of those points. Then they could integrate it into the game software.
